Powers: The Definitive Collection by Brian Michael Bendis

The series’ 10-episode first season is the latest blossoming of scripted TV adapted from the graphic novel by the same name published by Marvel Comics. The graphic novel is co created by Brian Michael Bendis an iconic writer popularly known for his outstanding work on The Avengers, Dare Devil , Spider man and other amazing Marvel comic books that we all know and love! Powers premiered on March 10, 2015.The first two episodes of the series were written by Charlie Huston and directed by David Slade. The first three episodes were released on March 10, 2015 on the PlayStation Network.

Powers” is set in a two-tier society where ordinary humans must coexist with a superior class who, thanks to random distribution, are endowed with any of a smorgasbord of superpowers.

Maintaining order among super-humans places a heavy burden on law enforcement. “Powers” focuses on a pair of homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who investigate cases involving those people of disruptive privilege known as Powers.

Such police work would be a challenging, often thankless assignment for anyone, but it’s all the more so for Walker: He used to be a superstar superhero, with a super-bad-guy reputation adding spice to his renown. But then his powers went away.

Today, he’s remembered, even jeered, for his bygone spandex-clad identity, Diamond, as he plods through his workdays as a standard-issue gumshoe.

“What’s more heroic than ‘I lost my super powers, but now I’m gonna speak for those who don’t have them’?” asks Brian Michael Bendis, who co-created the “Powers” comic and is an executive producer of the series. “That’s massively heroic – probably the most heroic thing he’s ever done!”.

George R.R. Martin releases Sansa-focused excerpt from The Winds of Winter

George R. R. Martin just made the wait for The Winds of Winter a bit easier for A Song of Ice and Fire fans—or more difficult, as this snippet may only leave them wanting more.

The author of the hit series Game of Thrones released a new chapter in his ongoing book series, only a few weeks ahead of Game of Thrones’ fifth season premiere on HBO. And the passage is more than a few lines—it appears to be an entire chapter from, all told from the point of view of Sansa Stark.

At this point in the book series, Sansa is in hiding, pretending to be Lord Baelish’s bastard daughter Alayne Stone. Sansa last had a point-of-view chapter back in the series’ fourth book, A Feast for Crows, in 2005. Sansa is played by Sophie Turner on Game of Thrones; fans won’t have to wait a decade to see her onscreen again.

The excerpt can be read on George R.R.Martin’s website.

The chapter is online now, and if you don’t like spoilers don’t look.

The Winds of Winter won’t be released this year, and Martin’s publisher HarperCollins has told the media, including the Guardian, that they have no idea when the book will be out.

Red Queen (Red Queen #1) by Victoria Aveyard | Review

About the Book :

Graceling meets The Selection in debut novelist Victoria Aveyard’s sweeping tale of seventeen-year-old Mare, a common girl whose once-latent magical power draws her into the dangerous intrigue of the king’s palace. Will her power save her or condemn her?

Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver- blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard—a growing Red rebellion—even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.

Review:

This was fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed this crazy adventure of a book. I will say though that it did take a bit of time for me to really get into this book but when i did it was mind blowing! Cant wait for the sequel!

Mare is a completely badass Red who is thrown into the world of the Silvers. If you`re a fan of the x men and game of thrones then this book is definitely for you!

As for romance, I can’t tell if it’s a love triangle or square.  Mare is apparently very attractive to many people.  I can understand that since she has such an awesome personality.  First there is Cal then there is Maven and maybe something there with Kilorn.  I’m not sure about that one yet.  Cal was definitely my favorite at first but he’s got some things he needs to work on and he may not be the best fit for Mare.  I’m not really a Maven fan and you’ll understand why once you read the book.  As for Kilorn, like I said, maybe it’s just friendship but maybe not.  Either way, he’s a good guy and good for Mare.

I LOVED the whole idea about being divided by blood, and the silvers having these awesome powers, etc..

Overall, Red Queen was a truly invigorating read and I can’t wait to see where Victoria Aveyard takes the characters next.  It’s going to be interesting.

I Hate Myselfie: A Collection of Essays by Shane Dawson..

The book that more than 12 million of Shane Dawson’s YouTube subscribers have been waiting for!

I Hate Myselfie: A Collection of Essays by Shane Dawson

From his first vlog back in 2008 to his full-length film directorial debut Not Cool, Shane Dawson has been an open book when it comes to documenting his life. But behind the music video spoofs, TMI love life details, and outrageous commentary on everything the celebrity and Internet world has the nerve to dish out is a guy who grew up in a financially challenged but loving home in Long Beach, California, and who suffered all the teasing and social limitations that arise when you’re a morbidly obese kid with a pretty face, your mom is your best friend, and you can’t get a date to save your life.

In I Hate Myselfie, Shane steps away from his larger-than-life Internet persona and takes us deep into the experiences of an eccentric and introverted kid, who by observing the strange world around him developed a talent that would inspire millions of fans. Intelligent, hilarious, heartbreaking, and raw, I Hate Myselfie is a collection of eighteen personal essays about how messy life can get when you’re growing up and how rewarding it can feel when the clean-up is (pretty much) done.

Jessica Seinfeld heads back to the kitchen with new cookbook..

If you’re still not comfortable in the kitchen, Jessica Seinfeld is ready to hold your hand one more time.

Seinfeld is writing two new books for Ballantine Books, an imprint of Random House. The first, a cookbook, will be released in fall 2016; the second will be a collection of humorous essays and observations.

Seinfeld, wife of comedian Jerry Seinfeld, has written three best-selling cookbooks, including “Deceptively Delicious” and “The Can’t Cook Book: Recipes for the Absolutely Terrified.” The former book, which taught parents how to trick their children into eating healthy produce, triggered a lawsuit — and tabloid headlines — by another cookbook author who claimed Seinfeld had stolen her ideas. The suit was dismissed.

The Longest Ride Released on the Big Screen!!

Nicholas Sparks has made a fortune off American nostalgia.

His books are written on the assumption that, on some fundamental level, we all want to live in a different time, with different values. We long for something better, or at least for something extraordinary.

Some of his books and subsequently successful film adaptations have been set in the past. The bestseller and box-office hit “The Notebook” takes place in the 1940s. While others are set in the present, the characters are endowed with anachronistic temperaments.

The latest Sparks film, “The Longest Ride,” which released in cinemas April 10 2015 attempts to combine both tropes (the past and present-day characters who long for the past), for double the nostalgia and, one imagines, double the ticket sales.

 Synopsis:

Ira Levinson is in trouble. Ninety-one years old and stranded and injured after a car crash, he struggles to retain consciousness until a blurry image materializes beside him: his beloved wife Ruth, who passed away nine years ago. Urging him to hang on, she forces him to remain alert by recounting the stories of their lifetime together – how they met, the precious paintings they collected together, the dark days of WWII and its effect on them and their families. Ira knows that Ruth can’t possibly be in the car with him, but he clings to her words and his memories, reliving the sorrows and everyday joys that defined their marriage.

A few miles away, at a local bull-riding event, a Wake Forest College senior’s life is about to change. Recovering from a recent break-up, Sophia Danko meets a young cowboy named Luke, who bears little resemblance to the privileged frat boys she has encountered at school. Through Luke, Sophia is introduced to a world in which the stakes of survival and success, ruin and reward — even life and death – loom large in everyday life. As she and Luke fall in love, Sophia finds herself imagining a future far removed from her plans — a future that Luke has the power to rewrite . . . if the secret he’s keeping doesn’t destroy it first.

Ira and Ruth. Sophia and Luke. Two couples who have little in common, and who are separated by years and experience. Yet their lives will converge with unexpected poignancy, reminding us all that even the most difficult decisions can yield extraordinary journeys: beyond despair, beyond death, to the farthest reaches of the human heart.
